Divorce

Supportive, thoughtful care for children and families navigating change.

Overview

Divorce reshapes a family. Even when it’s the right decision, it brings grief, uncertainty, and logistical stress that touches every member. We help children and parents move through this transition with as much steadiness and care as possible.

Support for children

Children process divorce differently depending on age, temperament, and what they’ve been told. Common experiences include worry, loyalty conflicts, guilt (“did I cause this?”), regression, or acting out. In therapy, kids get a neutral space to name what they feel, ask hard questions, and rehearse how to handle changes across two homes.

Support for parents

Co-parenting after divorce takes new skills. We help parents communicate more effectively (in high-conflict situations, that may mean parallel parenting), reduce children’s exposure to adult conflict, and make transitions between homes as smooth and predictable as possible for kids.

When the whole family sits down

When appropriate, we also do family sessions — including with new partners, blended siblings, or extended family — to name the changes out loud, hold space for feelings, and set the tone for what the new normal will look like.
