About Group Therapy
Small, thoughtfully curated groups where connection, insight, and growth happen alongside others walking a similar path.
A space to be heard
Healing, together.
Tailored to meet the unique needs of today’s world, our creative and distinctive groups empower clients to feel less alone, develop critical support and insight they can apply to all areas of their lives. We take pride in developing groups that are based in research and are truly engaging for clients. Depending on the nature of the concerns, group therapy may be an ideal choice for addressing challenges and making improvements in your life or your child’s life.
With great care, we pre-screen potential group members and keep our groups small to ensure the safety of each member, maximize the benefits of each session, and provide the attention that group members deserve.
What you gain
Three things a good group does well.
Shared humanity
Hearing others put words to what you’ve felt for years can quiet the loneliness in ways individual work sometimes can’t.
Real-time practice
Group is a live lab for the relational patterns therapy is often trying to reach. You get to notice them, try new responses, and be witnessed doing it.
Accountable growth
A small, consistent group gives structure to change. You show up, you’re seen, and the work compounds week over week.
What Groups Address
Some of the target areas that groups may address include:
Each group is shaped around a specific concern and a small, carefully matched circle of members.
- Depression
- Divorce (adults and children)
- Panic disorder
- Anxieties
- Chronic pain
- Grief and bereavement
- Social skills development
- Emotion regulation
- Sibling rivalry
- Parenting skills development
- Low self-esteem
- Anger management
What to expect
Group therapy involves one or more trained mental health professionals who lead a group of roughly 4 to 10 clients. Most therapy groups meet every week at the same time for 60 or 90 minutes. Group therapy may be attended in addition to individual therapy, however it is not required — group therapy alone can be an effective means to improve your mental well-being.
Benefits of group therapy
Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating, but the benefits of group therapy are researched and proven. Group members are often surprised by how rewarding a group experience can be. Groups can provide valuable information for the development of insight, act as a support network and a sounding board, and offer a safe space to practice new skills (e.g., social skills, communication, and problem resolution). They also create a sense of belonging, a safe space to express yourself freely without fear of judgment, and inspiration to make your own changes.
Our skilled therapists understand that within a safe and supportive group setting, they can observe the subtle ways in which group members interact and can offer suggestions to improve those interactions in real time — often accelerating growth in ways individual therapy cannot.
