Sometimes stressors in our lives hit like a storm, and being prepared can make all the difference. There will always be events that contribute to worry and frustration and require extra attention and patience. Stress management is all about taking control of your lifestyle, thoughts, and emotions.

Eat well

Eating whole, real foods restores balance and reduces the effects of stress on your body. Replacing harmful substances such as caffeine, alcohol, and refined sugars with clean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats helps regulate your hormone levels, including stress hormones.

Sleep

Following a regular sleep routine can help you decompress, recharge, and rejuvenate your body and mind.

Move

Exercising regularly can help your body deal with stress better. The endorphins released when exercising can help improve your overall health, including your stress levels, sleep pattern, and mood. Find something that you truly love and enjoy breaking a sweat!

Look at your choices

Take a moment to consider the choices you’re making that are contributing to your distress. Are you choosing to stay at a job or in a relationship that is not fulfilling or bringing you stress? Are you choosing not to communicate your distress to others or seek help?

Choices extend to how we think and contribute greatly to our distress. Consider how you’re choosing to view the events in your life and learn to reframe these events to make them manageable or even exciting. We often view obstacles as opportunities and find a way to make a negative event in our lives into something beneficial in the end. Reframing takes practice, and soon enough you may find that you’re doing it automatically without too much effort.

Meditate

Try meditation such as deep breathing, guided imagery, or progressive muscle relaxation. There are a bunch of different types of meditation for you to try. Nowadays there are also various apps that are free and guide you through meditation. With a little searching, you may also find free groups in your area that gather together and meditate.
